Kunzum pass ( Kunzum la 4551 m or 14931 ft ) is a high mountain pass in the eastern kunzum range of the Himalayas. It connects Lahaul Valley and Spiti Valley. It is on the route from Gramphoo in Lahaul to kaza. Kunzum pass on NH 505 is 122 km from Manali and 79 km from Kaza. Kunzum pass is normally open from June,july to october, November. There is also a 15 km trek to Chandratal, the Moon lake from kunzum la.

It is an extreme pass that connects Lahaul and Spiti Valley at an altitude of 4590 metres on Kaza - Manali route. You will see jaw dropping snow ranges on all the sides. There are some stupas, a buddhist temple and Kunzum mata is worshipped here. There is a short trek route to Chandrataal lake which is not advisable without any local help. There are no network signals and no food or stay options from Losar to Batal so please keep good amount of water and food. Best thing was the first snowfall of the season on that day. We took the route from Kaza to Manali which goes through Kunzum pass. Yes the route is the most amazing or unforgettable of my life because we remember the views on the route or the fun of this route. Fav moment of my life..

We have visited on 7th june,23. Its about 1hr drive from Batal, through steep hairpin mud road. Temperature was around -8°. Amazing views and we enjoyed with snow there. the Kunzum Mata temple to protect travelers in the treacherous roads. Located at an altitude of 14,931ft.The pass is open from June till October. There are no shops or stay options here until you reach either Batal or Losar, so plan accordingly. Very uneven road and high altitude is bad combination so have faith on your health first. Otherwise the environment and view will help you to forget every hardship. Enjoy...

Nature at it's best, and in raw. No civilization, no advancement. Cross this pass at your own risk (as on 3rd June 2023). No help available from Army or Govt of Himachal if needed or if you are stuck. BRO is maintaining it but with limited capacity. Road blockages are common here due to Sliding and glazier falls. There is no proper road available, you need to be well prepared before you cross losar. No mobile network will be available in the pass. Please have enough drinking water and food to survive if you are stuck in the pass for long hours/ days. Please inform your family at home before crossing losar, as you will not be able to communicate any info while you enter the pass. Keep a Jio sim card, as per my experience, at some places after you cross batal Jio will receive low signal , while all other service providers had ZERO signal. All the best. But after giving all the above warnings, let me tell you on 3rd June 2023 we crossed this pass and this was heaven.

Kunzum pass is high mountain pass in the kunzum range of Himalaya, connecting Spiti and Lahaul. Enroute from Gramphoo to Manali. Quite chill with beautiful view. It's a saying whenever you paas from here ,STOP here and take blessings from Kunzum Mata for your safe journey.
